Thomas E. Panowicz, Biography
Thomas E. Panowicz LLC has a solid reputation for handling bankruptcy and estate planning needs. Attorney Panowicz has more than 15 years of experience solving financial issues and providing reliable estate planning.
In my career as an attorney, to be successful, my goals are to provide excellence in legal service and customer service. With customer service, I focus on the relationship with my clients and strive to follow what I consider "good bedside manners" for attorneys: know your client, show respect, listen, be thorough, be clear, act and look the part (be professional), stay focused, be timely, be honest and follow up. I believe this approach comes from my values as a Christian and the fact that my work in Michiana covers my hometown of South Bend, where I grew up. I attended Holy Cross College, graduated from Indiana University and obtained my J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. As such, in the spirit of helping my "neighbors," I am licensed to practice law in Indiana and Michigan.
However, these good bedside manners are only a part of being successful. The other part is to provide excellence in the legal services. Since October 2000, I have devoted much of my time to consumer bankruptcy law. From representing debtors, some creditors and a Chapter 13 trustee, and from attending seminars, including those on the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, I have developed the bankruptcy knowledge, understanding and skills to meet and serve the needs of my clients. I have reviewed hundreds of cases for compliance with the Bankruptcy Code, effectively communicated with other parties, and prepared and presented arguments and pleadings to the court accordingly.
As further evidence of this effort to provide excellent legal services, since February 22, 2007, I have met the requirements for Board Certification in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the American Board of Certification. The American Board of Certification is the nation's leading legal specialty certification organization, certifying attorneys as specialists in business bankruptcy, consumer bankruptcy and creditors' rights law.
In addition to bankruptcy, my practice includes providing estate planning and probate administration services. My experience in these areas started early, when I was in law school and represented clients under the supervision of a staff attorney in the "60 Plus Elderlaw Clinic." This provided an excellent foundation to continue such services for clients in preparing wills, powers of attorney, living wills or advance directives, and medical powers of attorney.
Similar to the American Board of Certification, the states of Indiana and Michigan have certificate programs for estate planning and probate practices. In the continued effort to provide excellent services to benefit clients, I am in the process of obtaining certification in both Indiana and Michigan.
